It’s almost Halloween, we grew an amazing crop of PUMPKINS and we need them to go to good homes, so we are running a Buy-One-Get-One-Free sale on all pumpkins through the end of October. Come on down and get a bunch for painting, carving, or just putting in the yard. We have pie pumpkins in the 2-7 pound range and carving pumpkins in all sizes up to 26 pounds (bigger ones sold out already). Despite being grown right on our farm with organic practices, they are competitively priced. If you want to take a little time to select your pumpkins (pie and carving), you can park in an alternate location so you don’t block farmstand traffic. Either enter the farm on Middle Street about 100 yards down from the Bay Road intersection and park near the peach trees, or follow signs to drive through from the farmstand entrance on Bay Road to the parking areas near the pears or peaches. Please be aware of others, including kids. Speaking of kids, we will have some bouncy balls out that they can play with in among the pear trees.
We are excited to announce the arrival FROZEN RASPBERRIES and RASPBERRY JAM! During peak season, we froze extra berries in small zip-lock bags for direct sale (6-8 ounces each) that are now for sale in the farmstand freezer, as well as in gallon bags for processing. We recently took 150 pounds to Western Mass Food Processing Center in Greenfield, and are now in possession of about 470 beautiful jars of sweet, fruity, delicious jam. Come give both new products a try!
Here are a few more updates by product and crop:
- Fresh apple-Asian pear cider, a unique and very popular blend with a smooth flavor profile, is being pressed every weekend and will be available until we run out of fruit (expect3d first or second week of November).
- Cider slushies will be available this weekend and maybe next if it’s warm. Popular with kids and adults alike, they are incredibly refreshing and delicious and made from 100% Plum Brook Farm apples and Asian pears, nothing else!
- Apple butter, raspberry jam, honey, and tote bags are all non-perishable items in the farmstand every day. Apple sauce sold out this month and we won’t have more for the coming year – sorry!
- We have lots of Asian pears in multiple varieties including classic Japanese varieties, the Chinese Ya Li, and the California-bred DaiSui Li with Japanese and Chinese parentage. They vary in shape, skin texture, and flavor profile, but they are all juicy, crunchy, sweet and refreshing.
- We are very nearly out of apples and will likely sell the remaining ones (mostly Cortlands) this weekend. We had a light crop, partly due to poor weather during bloom that prevented bees from flying in large numbers (as opposed to the pears, which bloom a little earlier and had great pollination).
- Raspberries have been fantastic since early July and should continue through October at least, but they have slowed down quite a bit. We now pick on Mondays and Thursdays, which means we generally sell out by the day after and don’t have many if any on the weekends.
- SNAP-EBT payments are now accepted at our farmstand for all eligible food products! We hope to take HIP someday as well, but new farms are not able to sign up at present.
- And yes, everything we grow is produced using only organic-approved materials and practices, but we cannot label as organic because we are not certified.
