Apple butter and apple sauce from Plum Brook Farm
The raspberries finally succumbed to the cold nights early in November and the Asian pears just ran out, but we are so excited to let you know that in addition to fresh apples and our fantastic apple and apple-pear ciders, we now have apple sauce and apple butter for sale! These were just produced from 1,000 pounds of apples that we brought to the wonderful folks at the Western Massachusetts Food Processing Center in Greenfield. We get to turn extra apples into a shelf-stable product without having our own certified kitchen, and you get to live your local and organic values in delicious fashion all year long!

Our apple sauce is in a 24-ounce jar. It’s unsweetened, containing just a unique blend of apples and a trace of ascorbic acid, is velvety smooth and has a great tangy finish! Our apple butter comes in a 9-ounce jar and is made with the same delicious apple blend, plus some brown sugar for extra sweetness, cinnamon and clove for a subtle and warm spice, and ascorbic acid. Primary varieties in descending order are IdaRed, Cortland, Liberty, Fuji, Macoun, with smaller quantities of Gala, Spigold, Mutsu, Rhode Island Greening, Northern Spy, Spencer, and Criterion. We think you’ll find both products irresistible at breakfast, with latkes, with meats, or by the spoonful! We may offer them for mail order or special pickup during the winter, but for now you need to come by the farmstand at 416 Bay Road in Amherst!

We continue to press cider each weekend to keep up with demand for both apple and our unique apple/Asian pear blend.

Last but not least, apples are still going strong. We have lots of Spencer, IdaRed, Empire, Liberty, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, Mutsu, Cortland, and smaller quantities of quite a few other varieties including some faves like Golden Russet and Yellow Newton Pippin. With the Thanksgiving holiday ahead, we’ll do our best to keep in stock some pre-packed pecks of a baking mix with a variety of textures and flavors that make a great pie or other baked treat.

Our farmstand will continue to be open daily while product lasts and the weather (for both selling and keeping apples in outdoor temps) permits. We are generally open every day in season at least 9-5 but very often opening earlier. We take cash, check, credit card, digital wallet, and Venmo. Please stop by when you see the OPEN sign up at 416 Bay Road in Amherst.
